Whale Watching on the Big Island

Called Kohola, the humpback whale in Hawaiian mythology is a manifestation of Kanaloa, the god of the sea. Every year a large percentage of the humpback whales of the North Pacific migrate to the Hawaiian islands November through May. These whales travel approximately 4,000 miles round-trip, one of the longest migration distances of any animal species. During their Hawaiian 'vacation'  the whales devote most of their time to mating and calving. During this time they are also quite active and are renowned for their acrobatic displays.

We travel to Tonga frequently to swim with these great and beautiful creatures, as it is legal to swim with them in Tonga.

Many of these photos are taken in Tonga. If you are interested in traveling to Tonga to see the remaining humpback populations there (the Japanese are slaughtering them to this day), let us know.
